Assignment 4

Incenters and Incircles

by Debra Jackson

The INCENTER (I) of a triangle is the point on the interior of the triangle that is equidistant from the three sides. Since a point interior to an angle that is equidistant from the two sides of the angle lies on the angle bisector, then I must be on the angle bisector of each angle of the triangle. In this assignment we are asked to use the software Geometer's Sketchpad to to create an Incenter I of a triangle and explore its location for various shapes of triangles. Also, the Incenter is the center of the Incircle which is the inscribed circle of the triangle. From doing this, I have concluded that the larger the angle, the closer the incenter is to the vertex of the angle and have provided examples to illustrate this.
